WOMEN'S HEALTH

Know Your Numbers. Empower Your Health.

In my work with women, I consistently see nutrient levels that are lower than optimal—especially vitamin D and iodine. Many women also have other deficiencies involving iron, B vitamins, magnesium, and more. Sometimes there is a clear clinical deficiency, while other times levels may fall within the conventional “normal” range but still not be where we want them for optimal health.

One nutrient deficiency alone can contribute to fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep, mood changes, or low energy. But when several deficiencies occur together, they can create a snowball effect, making exhaustion and other symptoms feel overwhelming.

And no, it isn't always simply “getting older.”

Our bodies are dealing with factors that previous generations faced far less of—including highly processed foods, increased exposure to plastics and environmental chemicals, chronic stress, sedentary lifestyles, and constant technology and EMF exposure. Genetic differences, including variations such as MTHFR, can also influence how some people process and utilize certain nutrients.

Your symptoms are information. Your labs are information.

Instead of guessing what your body needs, let's look at the numbers, connect them with your symptoms and health history, and identify where your body may need support.

Know more. Understand why. Feel better.

Let's uncover the root causes together.

Poor Sleep: Find the Root Cause

Sleep is one of the main foundations of good health. Your body uses sleep to repair, recover, regulate hormones, process emotions, support immune function, and restore the brain and nervous system. Poor sleep can affect nearly every area of health, including energy, mood, memory, focus, metabolism, hormone balance, cardiovascular health, and your ability to recover from daily stress.

But poor sleep isn't always the problem itself—it can be a symptom of something else going on underneath.

Stress and an overactive nervous system are common contributors. When your body stays in a heightened state of alert, it can become difficult to relax, fall asleep, or stay asleep. Other factors may include hormonal changes, nutrient deficiencies, dehydration, blood sugar fluctuations, gut imbalances, medications, environmental factors, or lifestyle habits.

Sometimes the reason is obvious. Other times, you may be doing everything “right” and still wake up exhausted.

That's why I prefer to ask:

Why aren't you sleeping well?

Rather than immediately reaching for a sleep aid, let's look at the bigger picture. Are you getting enough magnesium or other nutrients? Are stress levels staying elevated throughout the day? Are hormones shifting? Are you adequately hydrated? Is your lifestyle supporting your natural sleep-wake rhythm? Could another health imbalance be interfering with your ability to rest?

Finding the underlying contributors can help us create a more personalized approach. Depending on what we uncover, support may include nutrition, nutrient repletion, stress management, nervous-system regulation, lifestyle changes, or targeted natural options.

Sleep is not a luxury. It is part of your body's repair system.

If you're consistently struggling to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake feeling rested, don't just accept it as something you have to live with.

Let's find the root, address the contributors, and help your body get back to restorative sleep.

Women’s Hair Health: Look Beyond the Hair

Hair thinning and increased hair shedding are concerns I see frequently in women, and the cause isn't always simply “getting older.” Hair growth depends on adequate nutrients, healthy thyroid function, hormones, circulation, and the body's ability to handle stress.

One pattern I commonly see is low iodine status combined with chronic stress. Iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production, and thyroid hormones play an important role in metabolism and the normal growth cycle of hair follicles. When nutrient needs aren't being met and the body is under prolonged stress, hair growth can become a lower priority.

Stress can also contribute to increased shedding. Major physical or emotional stress, poor sleep, illness, restrictive dieting, and nutritional deficiencies can all disrupt the normal hair-growth cycle. Sometimes the shedding doesn't appear until weeks or months after the original stressor, which can make the connection difficult to recognize.

Other nutritional factors matter too. Iron, ferritin, B12, folate, vitamin D, zinc, magnesium, and protein all play roles in healthy hair growth. This is why I don't like to automatically recommend a “hair vitamin” without first looking at the bigger picture.

If you're experiencing thinning or excessive shedding, I prefer to look at your symptoms, health history, diet, stress levels, and laboratory markers together. A thyroid panel and nutrient testing can help identify potential contributors that may otherwise be overlooked.

The goal isn't simply to find something to put on your scalp or take for your hair. It's to understand why your hair may be struggling in the first place and support the underlying factors that contribute to healthy growth.

Your hair can be one of the body's signals that something deeper needs attention.

Don't just cover the symptom. Let's look for the root.
