Hello, my name is Erin, I am a wife and mother to 3 children. I'm an artist, an avid cook, I love to create, sew, crochet, write, read, ALL the things! I'm also a missionary and I work with teenagers at an international school. By the way, that school is in the Amazon Jungle and we live fairly off grid. So yeah, I keep pretty busy, but I am beyond blessed to have the life I do and I am grateful for every day that I get. Yes, even the hard ones.
As a child, I struggled with constant health issues, especially severe migraines as early as 4 years old that I remember. At 17 it was finally discovered that I was born with P-ACC (partial absence of the corpus callosum). That's the middle part of your brain that connects the 2 halves. Ummm, it's kinda important. I was told most people with my condition were in a wheelchair and severely disabled, so I should just be happy that I wasn’t that bad. Also, that there was nothing that they could do to help at that time.
Fast forward into my mid 20’s and my health had continued to decline drastically. I was diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines, the most evil of migraines. They cause stroke and seizure symptoms along with the pain. They said I had chronic sinusitis, IBS, chronic fatigue, Raynaud's, and neuropathy (head to toe) and possibly MS as well. I had been on over 28 medications in just a few short years and nothing seemed to really be helping. After several years of seeing the best neurologists at the Cleveland Clinic and other places as well, I was told to go home, get my affairs in order and prepare my family that I would likely not live into my 30’s.
Over the next few months, I had several ER visits and was up all night praying for answers. On three seperate occasions, the day after an ER stay a flyer came in the mail for an Herbalist in our area. I finally told my husband that I thought God wanted me to go, but honestly it seemed stupid. If this stuff worked wouldn’t the best Dr.’s know about it? (FYI when we're in pain and not sleeping well, we don't make the best decisions or have the best of attitudes.) My husband reminded me that trusting God is always worth it and we drove to the office right away.
When we arrived, an amazingly kind and compassionate woman, who just happened to have a cancellation the moment we walked in, spent the next 2 hours with me. Afterwards, though very skeptical, I believed God wanted me to do what she recommended, which required me to consume around 54 pills a day. Although exhausting to keep it up, within 3 months of taking the supplements my symptoms progression had slowed! It was the beginning of my journey into holistic medicines.
A couple of years later, I was dealing with a severe allergic reaction to a spider bite and began working with someone who did homeopathy and kinesiology. I was able to make even more progress in controlling my chronic pain and fatigue. For the first time in my life I felt like I had a fighting chance. I began to dive into researching many different modalities, homeopathy, aromatherapy, nutrition, herbs, etc., spending hours a day reading books and looking through the internet. In the beginning, I’ll admit to pure selfishness, I just wanted to control my pain, be able to function enough to take care of my family, and serve God.
Along the way, we began to work in in Brazil. Living in a very remote area, medical care was a long ways away and poor even if you did make it to the city. I had many people asking me about oils, herbs and remedies that they could use to treat various infections, parasites, stings, fungus, stomach ailments and whatnot. I muddled through the best I could, researching as I went, since most of my knowledge had been for myself at that point. After a few serious health situations, I decided I needed to learn more if I was really going to be able to help others better.
Thus began my educational journey. I started taking classes for homeopathy, reflexology, stress management, aromatherapy, osteopathy, everything possible. I have been able to use this to help dozens of friends, family, coworkers, and other referrals. I have helped numerous people recover from surgery, including my husband who had open heart in May to correct his congenital heart defect. His doctors were baffled at the rate of his recovery, which is months ahead of the norm. After seven weeks of rehab he showed 185% improvement. Just 5 months post-op he is off all prescription medications and is only using herbs to keep his BP and heart healthy.
After nine years of fighting, I've been completely neuropathy, depression, IBS and chronic fatigue free for about the last four years. I haven't had a sinus infection for over ten years and haven't used OTC's, prescriptions or antibiotics for over fourteen years. My migraines are much more controlled and much less severe than they've ever been my whole life. I still have to work hard to maintain balance, because of my neurological disorder, but I'm over 40 and doing the best I've ever been. I couldn't be happier with the progress I've seen over the last 14 years, since commiting to a natural and healthy lifestyle.
So, now I want to use what I've learned and continue to learn to help as many people as I can to fight for better health. To teach others how to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle, finding an individualized and sustainable plan that works for everyone.
