My Journey Into Holistic Healing

My Story

Hello, my name is Erin. I am a wife and mother to three children. I'm an artist and an avid cook; I love to create, sew, crochet, write, read, ALL the things! I'm also a missionary, and I work overseas. So yeah, I keep pretty busy, but I am beyond blessed to have the life I do, and I am grateful for every day that I get. Yes, even the hard ones.

My Health Journey

As a child, I struggled with constant health issues, especially severe migraines. I remember having them as early as four years old.

At 17, it was finally discovered that I was born with P-ACC (partial absence of the corpus callosum). The corpus callosum is the part of the brain that connects the two halves. Ummm, it's kinda important.

I was told that most people with my condition were in wheelchairs and severely disabled, so I should just be happy that I wasn't that bad. I was also told there was nothing they could do to help me at that time.

Fast forward to my mid-20s, and my health had continued to decline drastically. I was diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines—the most evil of migraines. They cause stroke- and seizure-like symptoms along with the pain. I was also diagnosed with chronic sinusitis, IBS, chronic fatigue, Raynaud's, neuropathy from head to toe, and possibly MS as well.

I had been on more than 28 medications in just a few short years, and nothing seemed to really be helping.

After several years of seeing some of the best neurologists at the Cleveland Clinic and elsewhere, I was eventually told to go home, get my affairs in order, and prepare my family because I would likely not live into my 30s.

Over the next few months, I had several ER visits and spent many nights awake, praying for answers.

Then something strange happened.

On three separate occasions, the day after an ER visit, a flyer came in the mail for an Herbalist in our area. Eventually, I told my husband that I thought God wanted me to go.

Honestly, it seemed stupid.

I remember thinking, If this stuff worked, wouldn't the best doctors already know about it?

(FYI, when we're in pain and not sleeping well, we don't always make the best decisions or have the best attitudes.)

My husband reminded me that trusting God is always worth it, and we drove to the office immediately.

When we arrived, an amazingly kind and compassionate woman—who just happened to have a cancellation the moment we walked in—spent the next two hours with me.

Afterward, although I was still very skeptical, I believed God wanted me to do what she recommended. It required me to consume around 54 pills a day.

It was exhausting to keep up with, but within three months of taking the supplements, I noticed that the progression of my symptoms had slowed.

It was the beginning of my journey into natural medicine.

From Searching for Answers to Learning How to Help Others

A couple of years later, I was dealing with a severe allergic reaction to a spider bite and began working with someone who practiced homeopathy and kinesiology. I was able to make even more progress in managing my chronic pain and fatigue.

For the first time in my life, I felt like I had a fighting chance.

I began diving into research on many different modalities—homeopathy, aromatherapy, nutrition, herbs, and more—spending hours a day reading books and searching the internet.

In the beginning, I'll admit it was pure selfishness. I just wanted to control my pain, function well enough to take care of my family, and serve God.

But that began to change.

Along the way, we began working in Brazil. Living in a very remote area, medical care was a long way away, and even when you made it to the city, the options were often limited.

People began asking me about oils, herbs, and natural remedies they could use for infections, parasites, stings, fungus, stomach problems, and all kinds of other health concerns.

I muddled through the best I could, researching as I went, because most of my knowledge up to that point had been focused on my own health.

After a few serious health situations, I realized that if I was really going to help other people, I needed to learn a whole lot more.

And so began my educational journey.

I started taking classes in homeopathy, reflexology, stress management, aromatherapy, osteopathy, natural medicine, functional medicine, and just about everything I could get my hands on.

Over the years, I've been able to use what I've learned to help dozens of friends, family members, coworkers, and referrals.

Seeing the Difference Natural Support Can Make

One of the experiences that stands out to me most was my husband's heart surgery.

He had an open-heart procedure to correct a congenital heart defect, and I supported him throughout his recovery using the natural approaches and nutritional support I had learned over the years.

His cardiologist saw his surgical wound just 10 days after the procedure and commented that it looked like it had been healing for months. She was baffled by how well it looked.

After seven weeks of rehabilitation, his physical therapy team documented 185% improvement on his rehabilitation certificate.

His recovery was far ahead of what we had expected.

I've also seen other people experience remarkably good recovery and wound healing after procedures while using appropriate nutritional and natural support alongside their conventional medical care.

These experiences reinforced something I had already learned through my own journey: the body needs the right foundations and support to do what it was designed to do.

Where I Am Today

After nine years of fighting for my health, I've now been free from the neuropathy, depression, IBS, and chronic fatigue that once affected my life for several years.

I haven't had a sinus infection in more than ten years, and I haven't needed over-the-counter medications, prescription medications, or antibiotics for more than seventeen years.

My migraines are much more controlled and far less severe than they were throughout most of my life.

I still have to work hard to maintain balance because of my neurological disorder. I don't pretend that everything is perfect or that I have somehow found a magic cure.

But I'm over 40, I'm doing better than I ever have, and I couldn't be happier with the progress I've seen over the last 16 years since committing to a natural and healthy lifestyle.

Why I Do This

I didn't originally set out to become a natural and functional medicine practitioner.

I was simply a very sick person desperately looking for answers.

What started as a search for my own health eventually became a passion for learning, and then a desire to help other people who are searching for answers too.

Today, I want to use what I've learned—and continue learning—to help as many people as I can fight for better health.

I believe every person is unique. There isn't one diet, supplement, treatment, or protocol that works perfectly for everyone.

That's why I believe in looking at the whole person, understanding the individual, asking better questions, and creating an individualized and sustainable plan that fits their needs and their life.

My goal isn't simply to tell you what to do.

It's to help you understand your body, uncover potential root causes, and give you the tools and support you need to take an active role in your health.

Because I know what it's like to be told there are no answers.

I've been there.

And I know how life-changing it can be when you finally begin to find them.
